Sustainable Salons
As soon as the idea of With Grace Skin Management was born so too was the mission to be sustainable. Being environmentally conscious is something that is extremely important to us having previously been exposed to the devastating amount of waste produced within our industry. We are very proud to be Melbourne’s first Sustainable Skin Salon and will continue to do our best for the environment and our community.
Being a Sustainable Salon is about making a real and measurable change with a focus on positively impacting the community and improving the lives of those within it. Sustainable Salons was conceived in response to the serious waste problem that exists in the hair and beauty industry. A Sustainable Salon rescues up to 95% of salon wastes from landfill; taking the disposed of resources and creating re-purposing solutions that benefit the environment and give back to the community.
Sustainable Salons provide businesses with the education and the tools to correctly separate their waste materials at the source. They provide individual bins for specific materials ensuring every piece can be salvaged and arrives sorted and ready to be recreated into new and useful resources. The stand-out difference to regular co-mingled recycling is that the contamination risk is significantly reduced. Often with co-mingled recycling, the cost of sorting and separating the recyclables outweighs the worth of the material, which can mean many items are simply discarded.
The Sustainable Salons aim is to keep all our plastic in continuous circulation and out of our oceans and landfill. All paper used in the clinic is sold to specialised recyclers where it is reduced into a pulp and re-created into new paper products.
Sustainable Salons gives back by donating 100% of the profits from metal and paper recycling to the Oz Harvest and Kiwi Harvest foundations to support the amazing they work do. The Oz and Kiwi Harvest programs collect good food that has been discarded and make it available to those people within the community in need. They are significantly reducing the negative impacts of food waste on our environment by redistributing food; helping to create lasting positive social change by proving nourishment for those in need.
